Purple Sandpipers

I love these visiting birds from the Arctic. Taken at Eastern Point Light - East Gloucester, MA.

Thanks to Steve at Shootingmyuniverse.blogspot.com

for showing previous pictures of these adorable birds and for giving excellent directions to their whereabouts

I got up bright and early to watch the sun come up and to wait for the birds to arrive on the breakwater...and wait ... and wait. Seems they don't want to feed for about an hour and a half after sunup. Can you say human popsical and windburn (LOL) but it was worth it in the end.

Shore Birds

Red-Breasted Merganser - Don't you just love the spiky head feathers?

Red-Breasted Merganser - a little courting action
Bufflehead pair

Herring Gull - third winter (I might be wrong on this-corrections welcomed)

I think the one with grass in it's mouth is a Great Black-Backed gull-1st winter

Trees and Beaches in Snow

I went on my winter meander earlier this week. These pictures are starting from the end, but it's fun to go backwards sometimes.
I was in Portsmouth, NH for the big snow. The morning after the snow was gorgeous. Sunny and everything was snow covered before the sun got to it.

I love it, the beach covered with snow. This was along 1A south.

Winter Finally Came to Brooklyn

We not only had snow today but we also had a snowday. It was only the 3rd time since 2004 that NYC Schools had a snowday. YEAH!
So I walked around the streets with my camera. I came upon this mallard huddle.

Another Gull Comedy

"Look what I got"

"No, don't look! Running away, running."

"All mine, outran him."
"Hum, got it, now how do I eat it?"
